You aren't quite sure of the different types of electrolysis hair removal available. You've made the decision that electrolysis hair removal is the solution you've been looking for, but you just need a little more information. So, let's dig in and take a look at the different ones.
Most technicians (known as electrologists) offer three types, or modalities, of electrolysis. The difference between the three methods is in the materials that are used to transfer the heat energy.
1. Galvanic
The Galvanic modality is the original one, and the conductors are chemicals. Using a needle shaped tool an electrologist transmits a direct electrical current to the hair follicle. The result is that the heat reacts with the saline in your follicle producing lye (also known as sodium hydroxide). As it heats up it destroys the hair follicle, so that it cannot produce any more hair.
2. Thermolysis
Thermolysis is also known as high-frequency or radio-frequency. Unlike Galvanic that uses chemicals as the conductor, this one uses water. In this method, the hair follicle is vibrated by the needle shaped epilator as it transmits alternating currents. As the vibration takes place, water molecules surrounding the hair follicle are shaken and it heats up to destroy the hair follicle.
3. Blend
You can probably guess from the name that this method is a blend of the two above mentioned procedures - Galvanic and Thermolysis. It's a combination of alternating currents and direct currents being applied, causing a heating and chemical action to occur either sequentially or together in the hair follicle.
With any of these modalities mentioned, there are a few different factors that will determine your results. The first factor is the current being applied by a needle or wire filament. When electrology currents are being applied to the skin, other methods besides the needle won't provide the specific energy type that will cause permanent hair growth in the follicle.
The next (second) factor that is going to play a role in your results is how skilled the electrologist is. When it comes to seeing the results you want, choosing a practitioner that is skilled will be the most important step.
The last thing you need to think about is, just because these three different types of electrolysis hair removal procedures exist, you're most likely going to have to choose a method based on the availability of an electrologist that offers it.
Taking the time to research electrologists and facilities that provide electrolysis might take some time but you'll be glad you took the time when you find someone great and you receive the results you desire.
