Remedies For Frizzy Hair

ByShannon Adrian

Trying to find that really work can be very frustrating. I know firsthand how difficult it is to deal with hair that is excessively dry and frizzy, and how expensive and time-consuming it can be to try to fix the problem. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to help solve the problem and avoid the damage that causes frizzy hair in the first place.

Frizzy Hair Remedies Start With Prevention

The quickest way to improve frizzy hair is to stop doing the things that are damaging it. Prevention is a much cheaper option than expensive products and treatments to fix the damage. Here are a few ways to improve the health of your hair:

• If you can help it, do not wash your hair every day. Shampoo is actually a very harsh product to use on your hair. It strips away the natural nourishing oils and results in drying, dandruff, and frizziness. It then requires us to add moisture in the form of conditioners and conditioning treatments. Try to only shampoo your hair a couple times a week and use the most gentle shampoo you can find for your hair type.

• When you do wash your hair, press it dry with a towel instead of roughing it up. This will help keep it smooth and easier to brush out.

• After drying your hair gently with a towel, try using your fingers to get the tangles out instead of a comb or brush. Brushing wet hair can stretch and break it, so it is best to brush it very gently if using your fingers won't work. You can also try using large, wide-tooth combs, which tend to be a little more gentle than brushes.

• Keep your hair moisturized by using a good conditioner in the shower and by doing weekly or monthly hot oil treatments. You do not need to spend a lot of money on these. I use a homemade olive oil treatment that works very well and it ends up being much less expensive than store-bought oil treatments.

• Avoid heating products such as curling irons, flat irons, and blow-dryers. Since one of the main causes of frizziness is hair that is too dry, you do not want to dry it out even further by adding unnecessary heat. Occasional use is okay, but frequent use will cause damage.

• Get regular trims to help keep split ends away. The reason many people appear to have hair that is frizzy at the ends is because of split ends (and because that hair at the tips is the oldest and has been through rough treatment the longest). Keeping your hair trimmed regularly will help avoid that look.

We all know there are a lot of on the market, whether you opt for homemade conditioners or expensive salon treatments. While prevention is probably the best overall option, you can not avoid all damage to your how, no matter how diligent you are. The key to finding the right solutions is to experiment and find which ones work best for your particular hair type and budget.
