With Botox You Look As Young As You Feel

ByJudy Hendershot

Exercise, diet, and expensive facial care products are sometimes not enough to keep the wrinkles away. However, now you no longer have to watch your face go on aging from year-to-year. Many women and men have opted for alternative methods to keep themselves looking younger, and feeling better about their appearance. If you are concerned about wrinkles, frown lines, and crow's feet, Botox may be a viable solution.

Botox injections are used to treat moderate to severe, wrinkles on the face commonly seen around the eyes, forehead, and mouth areas. Botox is a highly diluted form of something called Botulinum Toxin Type A. It has been found to cause muscle paralysis or weakness which is the reason it works to smooth out the skin, and reduce the signs of aging.

It may sound scary, but Botox, when administered by a medical professional experienced in the field, is completely safe and has been regulated by the FDA since 2002. The serum is administered directly to a specific area in a small dose with a very fine, small needle. Common areas treated are those angry lines between the eyebrows, crow's feet around the eyes, deep lines on the forehead, and frown lines around the mouth.

Unlike surgery, anesthesia is not required for the procedure, and no downtime is needed. The discomfort from the injections is usually minimal, and anesthetic creams or cold packs are normally used to numb the area. The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes to complete. Side effects can include pain at the injection site, swelling, redness, bleeding, or bruising, and occasionally nausea or flu-like symptoms occur.

The side effects are temporary and usually minimal, and the procedure is much less invasive than other cosmetic procedures such as a face-lift. You can expect to see the signs of aging begin to disappear within three to seven days after treatment. The skin will appear smoother, fresher, and more youthful. The effects last for up to three to six months.

The best candidates for Botox treatments are young to middle aged men and women who are physically and mentally healthy. The FDA regulates that the injections are for people ages 18 to 65. They should have no history of neurological diseases, and have overall good skin tone. Women should not be pregnant or nursing.

Botox is not a good solution for those with sagging or sun-damaged skin, or those who have unrealistic expectations about the results of the treatment. The best way to find out if the procedure is right for you is to visit a medical professional and ask lots of questions. You don't have to succumb to the signs of aging. Self esteem can be greatly improved in a matter of minutes, and then you can stop avoiding your reflection.
