Melanotan Nasal Spray

ByAdrian Bond

If you were to tell me ten years ago there was a hormone that you could take which would make you tanned, thin and horny; I'd think you were talking nonsense. These days people call this hormone melanotan. Melanotan is a research peptide created to provide another level of protection from the harmful UV rays of the sun. But with its amazing ability to give such a dark tan very quickly, its use has gone from protection to cosmetic. Once it was made available for purchase to anyone over the internet, its use sky rocketed. It has also had extensive media coverage as it is a fairly new creation with unknown long term effects. But so far its short term use has been seen to be quite safe with only few minimal side effects.

When melanotan was first released for sale on the internet it came with a catch. The bioavailability of the peptide hormone is too low and ineffective when taken orally or transdermally. The only way it was administered was via a subcutaneous injection. Meaning you would have to give yourself an injection. This probably wouldn't have appealed to many, though its use still grew over the years.

Now we have a more user friendly way of taking melanotan. It was discovered that through nasal delivery via a nasal spray melanotan was still quite effective. In fact a lot of different peptides can be taken this way. There are a few downsides to this method however. Your mucous membrane does not absorb peptides with high affinity. Meaning a much higher dose needs to be taken when delivering the peptide with the nasal spray. Not only that, some of the spray can go straight down your throat and be destroyed. Another negative factor with the nasal spray, is the hormone stays active in your system for only a few hours, meaning more frequent doses have to be taken during the day. Up to 2-3 times a day you have to take a dose, whereas only one dose a day needs to be taken if administered via an injection. For some this isn't an issue as inhaling a nasal spray is far easier and user friendly than having to give yourself a shot.

So we now have a new method to take melanotan, a nasal delivery system which works. It just comes down to personal choice whether you want to buy more of the product to achieve the same effect whilst dosing more frequently or having to give yourself an injection?

The Barbie Drug: Melanotan

ByAdrian Bond

We know that one of the best defences against the suns harmful rays is melanin. This is found in our skins natural pigmentary system. To give a quick and simple meaning behind what I'm talking about, when we go out into the sun or use a solarium we are doing damage to our skin. As a result melanin is released which is our skins pigment; giving us a nice tan. This is what we are trying to achieve when we "sun tan".

So what is melanotan and why has it been labelled "The Barbie drug"? Melanotan is a hormone peptide created by researchers at the University of Arizona. They were looking for a way to provide some better protection for the "fairer" skinned. Though it was discovered by accident that other beneficial effects were seen, these included appetite suppression and increased libido. With all these effects it got nicknamed "The Barbie drug".

Melanotan became available for sale on the internet as a research substance and could be purchased by anyone. Its use quickly became cosmetic. People all over the world started purchasing it as an aid for tanning. Why spend countless hours lying under the sun or spend hundreds of dollars on solarium sessions when you can simply take a hormone that very quickly will give you a dark tan. With the government's constant warnings on the dangers of sun tanning, it's no wonder some will look for a safer and quicker way to tan.

If you already tan quite easily, you will see outstanding results with this peptide. In some cases people have become darker without any sun or solarium exposure. Unfortunately melanotan will only induce the body's natural melanin production. If you can't or don't produce any melanin then this won't help you. To really get the best results and full benefits out of melanotan, exposure to UV rays is still required.

The cost of melanotan has dropped over the years. A vial of the peptide can cost as low as US$50. One vial can give you a tan lasting upward of 6 months if the dosing is spread out and you naturally tan quite easily. This can save you hundreds of dollars in solarium use or fake tans. As well as money, you can save time from not having to spend a lot of it lying out under the sun. Hopefully melanotan will be seen as a start to creating a drug that will one day prevent skin cancer all together.
